
Rachel Keller is a fictional character from The Ring film series. The character, created by writer and producer Ehren Kruger and portrayed by Naomi Watts, serves as the main character in The Ring and The Ring Two and shares a lot of similarities to Reiko Asakawa, the protagonist of the original Japanese films.Introduced in the 2002 film, Rachel is an investigative journalist who must figure out the best way to avoid death after having watched the video of a cursed character that she discovers while investigating the murder of her niece. Rachel must investigate the life of Samara Morgan her son in The Ring Two. Ruth Rachel's sister asks Rachel to look into the mysterious reasons behind Katie's sudden demise. Rachel is told by Ruth, her sister, that she found Katie's disfigured body inside the closet. Rachel also reveals that Katie passed away from an attack on her heart. Katie's family members tell Rachel about the legend surrounding the cursed tape and how Becca Katie's friend was placed in a mental institution after seeing Katie's death. Katie's boyfriend, as well as two of her closest friends, all died in mysterious accidents that happened on the same night at 10:30 pm. Rachel travels from Shelter Mountain Inn to Cabin 12 where Katie and her friends watched the videotape that was cursed. Rachel finds the mysterious tape and watches it, after which the phone rings. Rachel hears a voice utter "seven days". Rachel is referred to Noah Clay as a video analyst by her ex-boyfriend. Rachel discovers later that Aidan Noah's son saw the tape as Noah called her. He tells Rachel that he believes Rachel. Rachel researches the lighthouse from the tape, and discovers it was located in Moesko Island, the home of a slain horse breeder known as Anna Morgan, who appeared on the videotape that was cursed. Rachel discovered that Anna had an adopted son named Samara who was capable of burning disturbing images into the bodies and minds of people, animals, as well as objects. Rachel has to go to Anna's widower Richard when she begins to ask questions regarding Samara.
